BACKSTREET’S BACK
It was Friday afternoon when I got a chanve to interview two of the BSB members (AJ and Howie) at the Fairmont Hotel Singapore. BSB was scheduled to launch their new album called This Is Us at the beginning of October, with a marvelous single “Straight to My Heart (Soldier Down)”. BSB, who has actually been in the international music industry for about 16 years, is back with their renewed energy.
C’nS : It seems like your new single, “Straight to My Heart” is different from some of your previous singles. What made you choose this song as your first single on the new album ?
BSB : For BSB and RedOne (the producer and one of the songwriters cooperating with them on this new album), “Straight to My Heart” seems like the most universally accepted song compared with the others. Also the particular dance we did for this song made us feel like we did the “Backstreet’s Back”.
C’nS : So, what do you want to show your fans with this single?
BSB : Well, we still have the hip, we still definitely want to do the up-tempo and as we’re geeting older we don’t want people to think that our music is slowing down. There is still a lot of energy in us and we just want to come up with that simple song.
C’nS : As a popular boy band with only a few hours of free time, how do you make the most of your free time back home in America?
AJ : I personally have become a kind of homebody now and I really like to stay at home playing poker with friends, watching movies, and playing some video games. I try to honestly stay away from anything that has music. Just because we’re always around music constantly I think it’s nice to do some stuff quietly like having a nice dinner and bowling.
Howie: As for me, I try to spend some quality time with my wife and my baby. So I spend a lot of my time working on some projects.
C’nS : Do you ever fell bored with touring, giving media interviews, and being away from home? How do you keep your spirits up?
BSB : We’ve gotten used to all of them. For us, being singers is obviously not it our best interest to talk as much as we do during the day with the press. It’s obviously easy when we don’t have a show the very next day. Our favorite thing to do is touring. I love it. I can’t wait to get back on the road.
C’nS : Which concert tour has been everyone’s favorite? And why is it so?
Howie : For me probably the best tour is Black and Blue.AJ : I think it’s pretty much the same. I like the round of “Millenium” tour but I love the “B” stage with the bridge.
AJ : Well, but I think this brand new tour will be our new favorite tour.
C’nS : When are you going to start your new album tour?
BSB : We’ll start on October 30 with Portugal and we’ll go all over Europe. On December 17 we’re going to be in Dubai and we’ll continue in early February, starting with Japan, South-East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
C’nS : Yoh have a lot fans in Jakarta, Indonesia, where I come from Do you have any plans to do a concert there?
BSB : We were there many, many years ago doing promo but we never actually did a proper tour there. Well, we do have a plan for this new album, but we don’t have the exact date yet for the entire tuoring. But we definitely want to come back to Indonesia.
It’s good know that as one of the famous boy bands the world, BSB can still hold their own as these days boy bands are getting out-of-fashion. Let’s hope that someday they’ll be back to Indonesia !!
